I illustrated a short comic about a spy, from a script by my pal, J.L. Bell. It’s printed in the Greatest of All Time Anthology, which you can get from Ninth Art Press, or at fine comic retailers in the Boston area.

Our Best of 2012 List

by Braden and Shelli

  • Best convention: Emerald City Comic Con. When we got to see for the first time that, yes, people are reading our comic. We’re looking forward to seeing you again in March! Seattle also wins our prize for Best Food While At A Convention; specifically, the Coterie Room
  • Best Cancelled TV Show: Outcasts. A really solid sci-fi survival story, in the spirit of Battlestar Galactica and Earth 2. All 8 episodes are available on Netflix streaming and other platforms.

Jesse Lonergan is our generation’s Rembrandt.
Shut up, I am not overselling him.

Love the Rankin/Bass Hobbit, but I do not envy the animators who had to redraw all those wrinkles.
zackules:

in 1977, Rankin/Bass (the animation studio responsible for the Animagic versions of Rudolph and Frosty, as well as the Thundercats) created a completely charming and faithful animated movie of The Hobbit. This movie was and is a tremendous influence on me. The character designs were by Tsuguyuki Kubo who was mimicking Arthur Rackham. Much of the animation was done by a studio called Topcraft, which pretty much went on to become Studio Ghibli.
With Peter Jackson’s version of The Hobbit barreling down at us (and I am more excited than a famished hobbit for Second Breakfast), I thought it would be fun to draw Jackson’s version of the dwarves of Thorin’s company as though they had been designed for the 1977 animated feature. Enjoy!

The latest issue of Adventure Time, number 10, comes out today!  It’s a stand-alone issue and the main story by me and Braden and Shelli is one where the Ice King steals Finn and Jake’s free will and gives it to… YOU, THE READER.  That’s right, it’s Choose Your Own Adventure Time.  Let’s just say I got a little excited when writing To Be Or Not To Be and blacked out and when I came to this entire issue was written.
Click through for a preview of the first few pages / choices!  It’s available at your local comic shop, from Boom directly, and if you live in the States you can get a digital version too!  Also be sure to check out a preview of the backup story by Jon M. Gibson and Jim Rugg - Ice King is selling his collectibles!

Buy it as a birthday present to me!
But, uh … you can keep it, though. I’ve already got it.

I don’t know if anyone else has already done this Disney/Star Wars mashup yet, but it was too fun for me to resist.

Adventure Time Volume 1 is out!  This collects the first arc from the comics AND the backups AND bonus materials.  If you’ve never been able to track down some of the issues this gives you it all!  You should probably definitely buy this book right away.  Plus right now Amazon has it on sale for almost half off!

It’s worth it for Ryan’s Water Princess sketches alone.

DID YOU KNOW: I did the art for two new books on the shelves this week? Ice Age issue 4, in addition to Adventure Time issue 9.

DID YOU FURTHER KNOW: Doing art for two books in a month is not as easy as it sounds.
